This course provides new students with an orientation to the college environment. It works to build more capable lifelong learners by combining conceptual knowledge with practical strategies and skills. With engaging content and a focus on applying course concepts to real-world situations, College Success is particularly helpful for students making the transition from a previous level of education or experience into the collegiate level of education.

This course is a comprehensive English Composition Corequisite course, covering the essentials for writing successfully in college with additional practice on key concepts. The course design allows students a way to master concepts and skills in small bites, through engaging practice activities and frequent questioning with targeted feedback. The “Writing Workshop” modules provide extra practice opportunities and walk students through the more difficult concepts in the course. Throughout, students learn about critical thinking, reflection, reading, the writing process, analysis, argumentation, the research process, citation, and grammar.

This course is designed as a stand-alone College Algebra course with additional support for those students struggling with prerequisite skills. Each module begins with a “Review Topics for Success” section in which critical topics from Prealgebra, Beginning Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra are examined. Additionally, just-in-time review of developmental math concepts appear throughout the text to help those students who need further learning support.

How it works: Upon successful completion of the College Success course, you can register for the second course, English Composition 1, and the third course, College Algebra. Each course includes remediation content and college content. English Composition 1 and College Algebra are 16-week courses; each course is worth 3 college credits with guaranteed transfer to over 2,200 colleges and universities nationwide.
